Vietnam Secures Top Ranking in Group Stages of Asian Volleyball Championships After Taiwan Win

In a thrilling four-set match, Vietnam, currently ranked 44th in the world, prevailed over Taiwan, who holds the 51st global ranking. The intense battle ended with scores of 25-18, 25-22, 18-25, 25-17 in favor of Vietnam.

Vietnam emerged victorious in the initial two sets but encountered a setback in the third set.

They swiftly regrouped and rallied to reclaim the lead, ultimately emerging victorious in the fourth set.

Skipper Tran Thi Thanh Thuy emerged as Vietnam’s top performer, tallying an impressive 24 points with 21 successful attacks out of 50 attempts. Meanwhile, Wu Fang Yu contributed 15 points for Taiwan in their defeat.

In Group C, Vietnam emerged as the dominant team, securing a total of eight points with three consecutive wins. Following closely behind, South Korea, ranked at No. 35 worldwide, claimed second place with six points from two wins and one loss.

Taiwan concluded their first-round campaign in third place, earning four points through one victory and two losses. Meanwhile, Uzbekistan took the fourth spot, having not won a set against their opponents.

Vietnam and South Korea have earned a place in the second group stage, joining Thailand and Australia from Group A.

During the upcoming stage, Vietnam will not be matched against South Korea. However, they will still be awarded two points, based on their previous stage victory in accordance with the regulations.

The second group stage is scheduled to take place on Sunday and Monday, during which participating teams will fiercely compete for the coveted slots in the semifinals.

In the upcoming round, Japan, India, China, and Kazakhstan are set to compete against each other in order to secure their positions in the semifinal round.

The 2023 Asian Senior Women’s Volleyball Championship is set to be held in Nakhon Ratchasima Province, Thailand from September 6. A total of fourteen teams will be participating in the championship, divided into four groups.

The top three teams of the tournament will secure a place in the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship.

In the event’s 20 previous editions, China has emerged as the most successful nation, securing a total of 13 titles. Japan has also showcased notable performance with five victories, while Thailand has earned two championship titles.

Unfortunately, the 2021 edition of our event had to be canceled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Vietnam’s outstanding accomplishment has been securing fifth place in the years 2015 and 2017.
